Bitcoin v26.0 Update Has Been Released, Here Are The Details

As of my last knowledge update in January 2022, I don’t have specific details on a Bitcoin v26.0 update. Updates to Bitcoin software are common and can include improvements, bug fixes, and sometimes the implementation of new features. To get the most accurate and up-to-date information on the Bitcoin software update, I recommend checking official sources such as the Bitcoin Core website, GitHub repository, or other reliable channels related to Bitcoin development.

Keep in mind that updates to Bitcoin’s software are typically communicated through official channels to ensure users receive accurate information and to maintain the security of the network.

Bitcoin Core has released the Bitcoin v26.0 update after the last update, Bitcoin v25.0, was released in May 2023. This update includes various new features, bug fixes, and performance improvements.

Bitcoin v26.0 Update

Bitcoin v26.0 documentation was released by one of the developers named Michael Ford. The proposal encourages upgrading to the latest version to be compatible with various operating systems and includes significant changes in future releases.

Some of the changes mentioned involve experimental support for v2 transport protocols, increased node resistance to attacks, and improvements to pruning.

“This proposed new P2P protocol (v2) aims to substantially increase the cost of carrying out an attack, primarily through the use of transport encryption” according to the text of the BIP324 proposal.

Additionally, the proposal lays out updates to remote procedure calls (RPC) and changes to the graphic user interface (GUI). Low-level changes, including test-related updates, are also covered.

Due to the Presence of BRC-20

Bitcoin Core developer, Luke Dashjr, stated that the v.26.0 update will fix a bug related to Bitcoin network congestion due to BRC-20 token transfers. The bug in question allows inscriptions to exceed data limits by masking

Bitcoin Core has long allowed users to set limits on additional data in transactions since 2013. However, this loophole allows inscriptions to cleverly circumvent these limits by presenting their data as program code.

Dashjr also expressed concerns regarding the release of Bitcoin Core v26.0, that even the latest update may not be enough to resolve the bug. He highlighted that there are still vulnerabilities in this version. According to developments, this will be addressed before the release of v27.0 which is scheduled for release next year.
